Tejano star Stefanie Lynn arrested on drug charges.

A Tejano singer who once rivaled Selena was arrested on drug charges and booked into the Kerr County jail early Wednesday.

Stephanie Lynn Garcia, 45, was arrested by Kerrville Police Department officers on two counts of possession of dangerous drugs and one count of possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram, according to county jail records. She was booked at

2:45 a.m. Wednesday and remained in the Kerr County Detention Center on Thursday night on $11,500 in surety bonds — $7,500 for the possession of a controlled substance and $2,000 each for the other charges.

Garcia, who has a Val Verde address, is known in the Tejano music world by her stage name, Stephanie Lynn.

As Stephanie Lynn, Garcia was nominated for the Tejano Talent Musicians Association’s Female Entertainer of the Year in 1995 and 1996. Both Tejano Music Awards were won by Selena — whose real name was Selena Quintanilla-Perez.

Selena won the award nine consecutive years, from 1988 to 1996 — once after her murder in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995, less than a month away from what would have been her 24th birthday.

Stephanie Lynn has now been booked into the Kerr County jail six times since 2007 on charges that include possession of drugs, theft and driving with an invalid license.

  1. Someone please reach out to Stephanie Lynn and get her some help. There are many Tejano artists that have been lost due to death or addiction to drugs or alcohol. Some have been incarcerated because of minor offense throughout many years, when judges or court administrators such as district attorneys office see this, then it becomes a major problem and send a person to prison or state jail. For the white music entertainer it’s rehabilitation clinic if caught with drugs or stealing. Tejano Music Artist should get together and do a major fundraiser for a rehabilitation clinic for Tejano Music Atrist. Knowingly it takes money and a dedicated person to make a commitment and market and propose a major project of this magnitude. It can be done! There are many young talented Tejano and Latino music artist coming up in the music business today. Let’s not lose them to any type of addiction or the streets of the world. Instead of raising money for your cause, raise big time money for a major crisis that has taken old Tejano music artist to the grave. Let’s try to prevent the new kids of Tejano Music from getting lost to the world of any type of addiction. Reach out to STEPHANIE LYNN. It’s never to late to save a life, we never know she may come out and shine up the stage again. Gracias. Thank you God Bless you. Maria Elena Rodriguez
