A Tejano singer who once rivaled Selena was arrested on drug charges and booked into the Kerr County jail early Wednesday.
Stephanie Lynn Garcia, 45, was arrested by Kerrville Police Department officers on two counts of possession of dangerous drugs and one count of possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram, according to county jail records. She was booked at
2:45 a.m. Wednesday and remained in the Kerr County Detention Center on Thursday night on $11,500 in surety bonds — $7,500 for the possession of a controlled substance and $2,000 each for the other charges.
Garcia, who has a Val Verde address, is known in the Tejano music world by her stage name, Stephanie Lynn.
As Stephanie Lynn, Garcia was nominated for the Tejano Talent Musicians Association’s Female Entertainer of the Year in 1995 and 1996. Both Tejano Music Awards were won by Selena — whose real name was Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
Selena won the award nine consecutive years, from 1988 to 1996 — once after her murder in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995, less than a month away from what would have been her 24th birthday.
Stephanie Lynn has now been booked into the Kerr County jail six times since 2007 on charges that include possession of drugs, theft and driving with an invalid license.
